Laowa Ranger QC issues? Addressable pre-sales by dealer?

I moved this over from the NAB 2026 thread since it's now May. ;-)

I was actually eyeing the Laowa Ranger Lites in S35, as Rob mentions below. I've seen a few things online mentioning potential quality control issues, but no complaints about the image really.

Just curious: Do you recall if the QC issues were flaws out of the box, or problems down the road?

If bought from a place like Duclos, which says they bench test every lens they sell, would that resolve the potential QC issues? https://www.ducloslenses.com/pages/quality-check

I have a friend who has one who's happy with it but IDK how much luck comes into getting a good copy.

If Duclos are wearing any QC issues then that's promising. The issue with some of these products (not Duclos' involvement), even if the repair is good on paper, you could be without the equipment for weeks or months.

Great question. I just happened to see a few people online/Youtube who mentioned some issues out of the box. So I think it could have been a QC issue when they were first shipping lenses. I don't have any direct experience.

I would definitely think if you picked up any lenses from Duclos they'd QC them and stand behind them for any service. So that may be the way to go for sure.
