Land of Plenty - shot with DVX

Re: Land of Plenty - shot with DVX

Wenders has had an increadibly solid directing career beginning in 1971 with "The Goalkeeper's Fear of the Penalty" through 1998 with "Buena Vista Social Club." He's won more major awards than many entire distribution companies with all their collective years and directors. "Paris Texas," and "Wings of Desire" are permanently etched in the film history books. All directors have their peaks and valleys but with the strength of his body of work, I'd have to think that he'll be back on top at some point.

The wides give it away, but most of that trailer looks really fantastic. I have never heard of this Franz Lustig but his work on this looks quite good indeed.

Finally, I saw it...
I think the film is not very interesting.
The script imho is undevelopped but the actors were very good.

BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THAT THE DVX PICTURE IS INCREDIBLY GOOD ON THE BIG SCREEN !!!!
We were in a very small theater in Paris (L'arlequin) and the screen was about 6 meters large.

I don't believe in god but all the five minutes, I was saying : Oh my God, the picture is incredibly good. I can't believe what i'm seeing.

Close, Medium, Large shots looked very sharp and clear with nice colors.
Day shot and night shot, all were good. The picture was very filmic.
Really incredible. Even the large shot in the desert (death valley) were very nice.

Only one shot was not really nice : The one with the tree in tona city after the burial was really looking DV and the colors dribbled.

In fact, I believed it was shot on 35mm even if some shots were a little bit grainy.
So we waited until the end of the credits and a line appeared mentionning that the motion cameras was furnished by panasonic.

In conclusion, with a good director photography, don't be afraid by the blow-up... your work will be respected.
The picture is really incredible.
It went far from my best expectations.

After, I asked to my girlfriend about the quality of the picture and she said the picture was very nice. As good as another film.

(Perhaps on a much bigger screen, the picture not looked as good as this one)

Re: Land of Plenty - shot with DVX

Hello all,

I saw the film at the Toronto International Film Festival. I must say that it did look cool. It was presented on a gigantic scope screen. Some parts are confusing in terms of film or video. THe contrast and some of the burn outs made it clear that it was video.

Watch this on the big screen if you can.
