Laird/nNovio upgrades or Hack?

SO initially the Laird CapDv and the nNovia Quick Capture appear to be ALMOST identical, but Laird seems to have stopped developing the product line. I own the 40gb Laird, but want to upgrade the HDD, however my understanding is that this may be limited by the firmware/bios. Has anybody ever upgraded the drive, or flash the nNovio bios to the Laird (and know where to get a copy)? Any other tips/tricks with the Laird that anyone would like to offer would be great.
