Lady from Shanghai - Wong Kar Wai's..

KOVAROVA

Veteran
next movie.

will be shot by Darius Khondji! very interesting... look forward to these two working together.

and will star Nicole Kidman and Rachel Weisz... hum..

is this a remake of the Orson Welles film?

Cygnet do you have IMDB pro? anyone? if so, check out the info on My Blueberry Nights .. and let us know what the scoop is.

Actually Wong Kar Wai will film My Blueberry Nights first, with Adrian Brody or Jude Law (tentative) and (confirmed) Norah Jones and Rachel Weisz (in N.Y) It's based off a Chinese short story he read awhile back, and has previously mentioned in an interview.

The Lady from Shanghai isn't a remake of the Orson Welles classic. WKW stated in an interview that he was inspired by the title of the film. I don't know why Sherwood King's name is there, but IMDB is known to have gotten things wrong before, or he could be using a small part of the theme/script, but seems unlikely considering his statements. BTW, WKW also pre-sold many territories to finance The Lady... so I suppose that money is now in escrow.

He actually had a "contractually" short prep + pro time for TLFS ( for Nicole primarily) , which was not met, which is why I think Nicole picked some other films first. Chris Doyle is also shooting The Lady in the Water for Shamaylan, so the mix of new cinematographers with new directors is going to be interesting.

I'm going to see if I can get some time on his New York set, I wish (anyone know him :) ?. Whatever he chooses, I would love to see a film in the near future, and not wait the 5 years like I did for 2046

Of course, IMO, he's worth the wait.

Edit : Rachel is listed for "The Lady From Shanghai", but she said she was doing a WKW movie while pregnant, which she is now, and it will be in N.Y, which TLFS isn't so we;ll have to wait and see. Sometimes WKW shoots two movies in different times, grabbing performances/places which he places in later movies, or semi-sequels ...

Cheers.

should be lovely and stupendous like most of his ventures. i still have a crush on the girl from chungking. so cute and disarming!

She's also in 2046 !

If you're referring to Faye Wong. His female actress' are usually stupendously talented (Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Cheung, Gong Li, Faye Wong, to name a few).

Let's see what comes out from WKW without Doyle... Definetly looking forward to it!

I'm a little nervous about the absence of Doyle. I sure hope it works out though.

Kitano is bar bone my favorite director. Wai is a close second, but not that close. This could be very very good.
