Lacie D2 500 gig - failed after a month!

I got the old "OSX does not recognise the drive error".
Disk utility couldn't get it back, but I took the drive in to the dealer and he ran "disk warrior" on it - the disk made some bad clicking and there were some scary errors while disk warrior tried to rescue data ("hardware failure causing reduced speed" or something like that)
Anyway - we managed to save some of the data but over 100 gigs was lost. after disk warrior had done its thing, the drive seemed to work ok, but it needed to be manually mounted in disk utility - just plugging it in didn't get it to show up in finder... Anyway, I bought another drive and moved the resued data over, and left the old drive there to be dealt with under warrenty.

I never improperly eject the drive or anything - what a pain.
It is in for warrenty, hopefully they'll replace it and not just reformat it and say it is fine now.

anyone else have issues with these things? I thought they were the best...

I'm running over 4 terabytes of Lacie drives... no problems for me other than the jet engine like noise.

I read a review for the Lacie 400GB or 500GB drive that said the evaluation drive they were sent for reviewing burned out. apparently those drives are actually made of of two hard drives contained in the case. they did this in part to spread out heat distribution between the two drives because it gets hot. they still gave it a good review, though. I'll check my apartment to see if i have the article. i only read a few magazines (macworld,DV, videomaker, mac design) so maybe you could find the article online yourself.
there was also a major problem when using the firewire 800 drives with panther that Lacie released a fix for (article below)

We have several 500 gb drives at my school and been having the same issues that you described. LaCie seemed so stable...
