LaCie Blu-Ray burner for Archiving

Well I have been waiting a year now for a Blu-Ray burner that I could archive all my source footage too. I thought I was gonna be first in line to buy one of these when they came out, but I find myself a little apprehensive. I am not a big fan of LaCie, who is still gonna win the HD format war, and are there better products out that might be better for archiving? I don't know, but I want to wait now until after the NAB show, to see what is coming out. Part of me still likes the idea of archiving to a format that is not a HDD, just in case.

What about you? Will you be archiving with a burner like this?

Here is the link to the DV Guru article I read on the burner:

Just my 2c, a 50GB dual layer BR-D disc costs $35-40. Multiply by 10 = $350 for 500GB of BR data.
A 1TB internal drive can be had for $400, or 2 external 500GB USB 2.0 drives can be had for under $400. I am still waiting for disc cost to really come down before I consider archiving to 10 discs what I can put on on 2 USB2.0 drives and have instant nonlinear read/write access to them without burning anything. :)
But! I can definitely get using the BR-D discs for delivery to producers who have the players, etc...

Disregarding issues like price etc. I would *never* buy another LaCio product.
I had their 500G Firewire external drive that died 2 monts out of the paltry 1 year warranty.

The best they could do for me was suggest that their product is essentially flawed because it doesn't dissipate heat properly (the enclosure is too small I think) and maybe i should try a 3rd party larger enclosure. Or buy new power cords from them for $35 which may or may not solve the problem.

Now I appreciate it was out of warranty, but their attidue really irked me, and I see a lot of other complaints about similar stuff.

I will never buy another LaCie product in my life for any reason.

Just my (irritated) 2c
