LA Film school

Re: LA Film school

havent heard anything about it, but if you're going to be at film school somewhere, it should probably be in LA

Re: LA Film school

I myself wouldnt go there for the purpose of learning how to make movies, but I would go there because it is most likely a great place to make connections. Maybe one of the teachers is Spielberg's best friend. Or one of em maybe came up with the concept of the Terminator and gave it to Jim Cameron. Maybe Quentin Tarantino sneaks in every once in a while looking for the next big star. You never know. Just remember, always make friends witht the faculty, even the janitor!

Re: LA Film school

Finally one I can answer! I did meet students that are in LAFS and heard nothing but good about the school’s hands on approach. Many ASC members drop buy to guest lecture and when I was there dir. Joe Dante (Gremlins) was there. They hold annual festivals that get loaded with producers all the time. It is also great location wise, it's right on Wilshire.

I also know that Gnomon School of Visual Effects, one of the leading institutions for Maya, collaborates on a few projects for needed effects. Overall I hear nothing but good out of that school. After the terms are done, LAFS has an extension with UCLA's films school department, which is where I go. So UCLA and LAFS are linked somewhat, one is a private institution, and the other a public university.

Hope this helps,
Shaun

Re: LA Film school

I use to work for the LA Film school and they always had some film maker coming in to show his/her film and then do a Q & A afterwards. I usually got to see this because I was the projectionist. So as far as meeting film makers there, it might be a good idea. I do remember hearing students bitching about the school. But that was when they first got off the ground a couple years ago. Maybe things have changed over there.

Re: LA Film school

Hey, thanks for the reply people, this helped very much, I have heard from one person besides on this board, and they attend it and say they love it, they said the first month is "boot camp" you learn everything about all the eqpt. and then within the first week you start making movies!

Re: LA Film school

Yeah seriously, I've been to a few film schools, but LA film school was the best of them all. They skip the bullshit, you have the equipment you need, the right faculty and environment. I graduated from there with a 35mm "festival" short. I always tell cats interested in film school to go there.

Re: LA Film school

LA film school was just bought by Full Sail. ITs going to be turned into a place just like Full Sail but i dont think its going to use the Full Sail name.
