LA 48 this weekend?

Anyone else doing the LA 48 Hour this weekend? Sucks that its
overlapping Cinegear :(

Our team is shaping up.. mostly for post. Still looking for a DP and
ideally Sound crew. The indie thing I found the last time I lived in LA
still holds true.. its MUCH easier to do anything film related outside
of LA.

That's what I've been saying. Too hard to get anything done IN LA. People think it's easy!

I'd come out but unsure of my schedule and what I could do ya for. What's the entry fee and all?

I got in on the 'earlybird' so it was $125 entry. Its $148 now if there are
any team slots left.

Lemme know if you're free at all this weekend!

I live in CT, but I'm curious about what you mean when you say it's hard to get things done in L.A.?

Practically every location has been both burned and or paid to be used as a location,
so they can tend to be difficult to get... especially on short notice.

The local police can be draconian about permits in MUCH of SoCal at least. You
can expect to be run off if you even think about mounting a camera on a tripod.

Then there is the safe bet thing. There are a ton of people that are unwilling to
leave their 'support system' behind. They freak the second anything non-standard
is tried... typical guerrilla film tactics can cause them to go near catatonic.

Totally agree with you, Greggl. Been shooting out of town here and there and finding it completely delightful. People practically come running to help you out! Quite the opposite of things here at home. Oh, well.

Drop me a line and let me know a bit more if you're still looking for a D.P. I might be interested.

I joined in with some one that i am DP'ing for, and got a few other DVXers helping out.

Should be fun!!

Sweet!

I spoke to someone I went to school with back in the day. She did the Milwaukee
48 last weekend and pulled Film de Femme... I have yet to speak to anyone I know
doing this year's 48's thats pulled anything else :)

Greggl - good luck on the contest, let me know if you need a mic if you don't get a sound guy. I have the Oktava, bbg and windjammer you are more than welcomed to borrow.

When are you shooting? I'm in town and I have some gear with me. My schedule is a bit all over the place but let me know when cause it sounds like a lot of fun.

Jim
