Hey LA filmmakers! For the past year I have been developing a short film competition set to Launch in April next year, and it's getting to that point where it will need help from the community. I'm hoping I can find some here that also have a passion for helping aspiring and indie filmmakers.
Shortlands is a short film competition that occurs five times a year starting in April. As with other film competitions, each "Round" comes with a set of requirements and a deadline. The first Round starts the year in April with a 48hr round, two months later the second Round in June doubles the time and is 96hrs, then one week in August, then two weeks in October (Horror Special). The fifth and final Round is the Championship, where only the top 12 teams of the year are eligible to compete and filmmakers are given two months to make a short film. The night after each Round of films is due, we select the top 12 films, and premiere them in cool and exciting venue. Three accomplished guest judges then judge them live and the winners are announced at the end of the evening.
I have experience and have co-produced a successful film competition in Hawaii, and I am looking to re-create that success in Los Angeles. What I loved about what the competition did was it gave a platform for aspiring and underground filmmakers a chance to grow as artists, gain exposure to influential professionals, as well as network with other like-minded filmmakers. We found that filmmakers that competed regularly, even ones that had never touched a camera prior, after two years were off working professionally in the industry.
We need help long-term, and also on the day of the event. Below are the positions I'm hoping to find:
- Event Producer Assistant: Someone to help organize before the event, as well as help manage the event.
- PR/Social Media: Someone that has experience / connections in social media, can help promote and create social media posts and communication with followers, as well as help grow the online community.
- Marketing Media Specialist: Someone with After Effects experience that can help create promotional material for topic announcements, etc.
- Projectionist: This position is on the night of, but very critical. Someone that can operate the playback software, audio levels, and lighting cues with precision.
