KTLA-TV Indie Film Profiles

Hey Guys,

Haven't been on here in a while but I wanted to let you know about a new series that KTLA is running during their morning news show called Indie Profiles. All you have to do is submit your 2-30 minute short film to them and they'll consider it to put clips on air and host your film on their website along with a profile of you. They'll even have their entertainment report review your film. KTLA has about 150,000 viewers of their morning news show every 1/4 hour so you'll get a lot of exposure!

Here's the link.

That's a cool opportunity, but it would require that your film basically be finished with its festival run thus somewhat old. I mean, nobody is going to take a short film they spent $10,000+ on, i.e. a quality short, and give it to them to display online, thus voiding the rules of 90% of film festivals. That's what they don't seem to realize with those types of things -- most of us cannot have our films available online while we're still on the festival circuit. I'd totally send it their way if it was still around in a year and a half, but I have a lot of eligibility left so I can't do that now.

What's the name of the short you currently have in the festival circuit?

The Devil's Matchmaker. Plays opening night at Action On Film here in Pasadena at 8 p.m. on the 24th and then again the 31st at Sacramento, that one is on HDCam, so that'll be sweet, I may drive up there for that screening. At least, I'm thinking of it. At AOF we're nominated for Best Comedy, Best Cinematography, and Best Produced Screenplay. I also have a music video, Ignis Fatuus, nominated for Best Music Video at AOF so that should be fun. My other video Winded plays in a few days in Florida, so a lot of stuff on the festival circuit now.

Devil's just begun its run, though, I've sent it to about 65 festivals I guess so far, but we just finished it in late March and it just had its premiere at Dances With Films June 10.

I'm looking forward to doing another short soon, though, I hope. For now, focusing on corporate work and business stuff.

True, but old for you is new for me. ;-) Basically, though we talk about the film itself as well, the idea here is to highlight the filmmaker. Nothing wrong with displaying your old stuff either!

Oh no, not at all, just saying I have to give the thing a fair shot on the festival circuit and just see how it all plays out.

For now, I have no idea what is to become of the short after its run ends. I hope it's not totally unceremoniously dumped onto YouTube and my Website and whatnot, but, you know, that could be the case. It'd be nice to have it on a compilation DVD or some more prestigious site, but whatever. I guess it's no biggie.

I may end up packaging it with a feature down the road anyway, if I produce this feature comedy I'm working on writing now, then I could throw it in when I find distribution. Not charge extra for it obviously, just be like, "Hey, bonus feature for free, mind putting this on the DVD?" haha. It'd be of interest since I expect to use two of the same actors as leads in the feature, so it'd be kind of a good inclusion in that respect.
