what other mics work with the little ktek shock mount?
i paid a lot of cash for that little thing, any other good mics fit in it?

There is also the Ktek GPSs for short mount mics. Works a little better (IMHO) and provides some protection for your mic from being banged into ceilinges, etc.

But yes, the KPSs will work for other mics.

I bought a kssm for my Oktava. It seems to work fine with my AT4073a. It does droop a little with the Lightwave miniscreen ("half-blimp") mounted on the mic. I haven't been using it long, so I don't know if it will hold up longterm. But, it seems to be working fine.

I don't know the ME66. I did look at the MKH-416. On speakers I couldn't hear an appreciable difference from the 4073a. Listening through good headphones, there was more of a difference, but not enough to justify the price difference for me at this time. I've been very happy with the 4073a.

The biggest difference between the 416 & the 4073a isn't completely the sound quality difference. There is a significant difference in sound, 416 is much more natural sounding, but the BIGGEST difference is the tightness of the pick up pattern. The 416 is very very tight.

This is a great feature for pro's and for more serious pieces of work. The problem with the 416 is when you are getting one of your friends to man the boom mic. In this situation you will NEVER get good sound. The 416 is very tight and should be focused tightly to get the best sound reproduction. This is a great thing for a pro, but as someone who just likes sound, I sold my 416 because it was just too tight for me. I replaced it with a 4073a.

Let's not make the mistake and say that the AT sounds as good as the 416 though. Close, but no cigar.

My contention was not that they sound alike.

I contend that:
1) Listening to the co-recorded wav files, that are stickied in this forum, on PC speakers, I could barely notice any difference.
2) The differences were much more pronounced, to me, listening through good headphones.
3) These differences, to me and my budget, were not enough to justify the added cost.

These are the facts, and they are undisputable.

That said, I am thus far quite happy with the 4073a. Since my expertise is studio camera and ENG Editing, microphones were somewhat uncharted territory when I was buying equipment. I was very reliant on the hournable gentlemen and ladies of this venerable forum. Their council was sound, true and of the greatest assistance.

And, I can't get enough of this little guy ---->
