Just bought one of these to team up with my HVX200 and having only had a chance to 'play' with it at the moment it did strick me that the 'gain' setting of low, medium and high was very restricting i.e. the high setting picked up like EVERYTHING even handling the unit. The low setting picked up virtually nothing leaving me only the medium setting :( I was using the attached mic's I'll connect it to a Rode NTG XLR mic tonight and see if than performs any better!

Anyone using this unit? if so anyone got any tips?
Cheers

I'd put a good mixer in front of it to mix the mic/mics, then send a line level out of the mixer to the H4.

Using that unit in the way you are describing seems like it will only give you headaches and questionable audio oin the field.

I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, use a mixer in the chain after the mics, and before the recording device-- that's the safest way to know that you are doing a pro job--- and that's all you'll accept right? Sound Devices 302 is a good entry level mixer. I use a PSC Alphamix and like it very, very much. It once took a bullet for me.

Yes, though unfortunately I once knew of an FP-32 that started an E-coli outbreak at a dairy farm outside Milwaukee.

I actually remember that outbreak back in like '94. My cousin got very sick. They said it was like from some sewage being released in the drinking water but I often suspected Shure had a hand in it.

and while we're on this topic, I'm pretty sure Behringer mixers are responsible for third world debt, too. :)
