Three of the most prominent Korean film directors are ALL having their english language film debut in the next year. Quite remarkable if you ask me.
We have:
Chan-Wook Park, probably the most famous Korean director, primarily because of the film Oldboy. He's making his debut with Stoker, a drama/thriller starring Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman.
Joon-ho Bong, my favorite Korean director. He's most famous for The Host, but is also highly acclaimed for Memories of Murder (my favorite Korean film ever) and Mother. He's making his debut with Snowpiercer, a dystopian film starring Chris Evans and Jamie Bell, with help from John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, and others.
And finally we have Jee-woon Kim, of I Saw The Devil fame, making his debut with The Last Stand, Arnold Schwarzenegger's first starring role since leaving office.
I'm always skeptical of foreign directors making english language films (it turned out very poorly for Wong Kar-Wai), but it's fascinating none the less.
Which director do you think will have the most success in America? My money is on Joon-ho Bong but who can tell.
