Kona LHe with Blackmagic HDLink

I am putting the finishing touches on a Mac editing station. I do not have $5K for an HD production monitor. I was thinking of using a Kona LHe and a Blackmagic HDLink to convert HD signal to be viewed on a 21" DVI Cinema display. I know that you can't do "critical color correction" on this setup. I am looking for comments, evaluations as to the functionality of this setup.

sorry i can't be of much help... but i've been curious... why exactly do you need the HDLink for converting the HD signal? the cinema display has a decent enough resolution to display the HD video... what exactly needs converting?

I've been reading up on this for a while now. I think you're better off saving your HDLink money and using it on a good-quality CRT monitor for Color Correction. I mean, look at it this way - you can already get the full-sized image on any LCD through your video card. And if you're not doing CC, what do you need to get an SDI-accurate image into the monitor for?
THe Sony PVM-14L series is good-quality for a reasonable price. I suggest you take a look.

I have to agree. Why not component out from your Kona to a PVM-14L5 for CC? I don't see how you can do any CC on an LCD.
