Kona LHe monitoring problems... any advice?

Okay... so my company bought a Kona LHe card a while back, which is basically used for monitoring HD and to output component SD to a Beta SP deck. They just picked up a 1080p plasma for comfy client viewing during the edit process. Here is where my issue comes into play....

The big-wigs of the company want to be able to show the client a full-res HD edit on the plasma AND a SD down-convert on an SD monitor. I'm using an SDI/HDMI converter for monitoring HD, and a CRT SD monitor output from the Beta SP deck for SD. The Kona card is doing a FANTASTIC job of down-converting. However, there is some sort of time sync issue. The image "cycles" on the SD monitor, rolling down every ten or so seconds. Most of my edits are composed of 720/24pn clips... I'm editing in FCP using the easy set-up KONA 720/23.98 DVCPRO-HD setting.

Any clue what is causing this "timing cycle" on the SD monitor? There is some sort of "reference input" wire coming out of the Kona card ... and I REALLY don't know where it goes. There is something about a "genlock reference generator" in the Kona manual... do I need one of these, or are there more simple and cheaper options with the LHe?

ANY help with be appreciated... big time! :)
