Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1 speakers

I was recommended this CD that helps you fine tune the EQ... I guess it could work if they play the individual frequencies and you try to match the levels... is that bull or is there something that could work?

I talked to a Klipsch rep and he said these speakers are significantly bright... after he said that I noticed it and adjusted the 8k and 16k bands. I also increased the low mid-range boost by lowering everything else further...

Any help on how to try to adjust in a more scientific type way would be welcome.

Could I set up a mic on a stand and play separate frequencies individually then try to match their levels?

It isn't a matter of trying but an unfortunate situation I am in... that's all I have...

Then again I am planning on using my Headphones for most of it... the speakers only for 5.1 panning... I am planning on getting real Pro Studio Monitors when I can afford a decent pair.

I know... it is sad...
But don't hold back, tell me what you think about them. It would really help to know.

without a reference, you are going to have a hard time getting things right. Is it essential that you go with a surround mix? It seems kind of crazy to try for. I would concentrate on getting the best stereo mix that I could. There are many reasonably priced studio monitors. I had krk rp5s (about $300/pr) they are not the best in that price range anymore though. I just moved up to the jbl 4326 ($1000/pr) and I am blown away how much better my mixes are coming out. Sorry to rain on your parade. I would say that ANY studio monitors would be better than computer speakers (when I moved up to the krks from some bose computer speakers a few years ago, things got much better). Trying to mix for surround sound is way way beyond the point you should be trying to focus on. Getting a good set of monitors and a room setup and acoustically treated to match should be your first concern.

Order placed! Thanks for the suggestion!

I don't want to get $300 monitors though after reading about how you guys (consensus) feel about the 300 range vs. 900 range monitors... I spent 280 on these and my prior ones were crap (even when compared to these!)

is there a lot besides true low-end that I will be missing when mixing stereo on my MDR-7506's?
I am working on hooking my setup in a way that will allow me to turn the sub on while still listening though my headphones though that, again, would be dangerous experimentation territory...
