Kinos and shutter speed

I've mostly used tungsten lighting (kinos sometimes but never at high shutter). The next shoot i will be using kinos and high shutter speeds. Do kino flos exhitbit flicker at high shutter speeds?

shooting with the 7d ...not that i think it matters.

Yes. Try and get your shutter to sync with 60hz compatible speeds. Kino's are a non-continuous lighting source, so high frame rates and high shutters can be issues at off-settings.

I see you are from another country, you may want to use cycles of 50hz, if that is what your power is.

All has to do with the ballasts. If it's a kino flo fixture, I'd have to guess that the answer is no.
I briefly worked with one on this shoot a few months ago and decided I didn't want to use it, I can't remember for sure but I think once it was dimmed down there was some flicker. The color temperature definitely changed with the dimmer, but I can't say for sure if it was flickering.
Do you have an opportunity to go test them out?

Kino flos are safe at any shutter speed. Should be fine.

"Can I shoot at any shutter speed and not get flicker?
Kino Flo ballasts are designed to be flicker free at any shutter speed. As with any electronics, failure of certain components within the ballast may result in flicker on a high speed shot. For this reason it is advisable to run a camera test on any critical high-speed shot."

I have shot a sequence at 150 FPS in 16mm, key was a kino, back light an HMI, and we ramped it to 24fps. Kino was rock steady, the HMI (who was not flicker free, did flicker, but it was the effect we were going for...
