I have a few kino's ( a diva 4 and a Regular 4) and I'd like to use them outside. I have a 400w/800 max power inverter. Would that work with a car battery outside? If it does how long would it work for and how to charge the battery w/o a car?
Might work, but to what effect? I mean, are you shooting at night? If so, yes the Kinos would likely do fine, depending on the quality of power (not quantity, but quality) output by your inverter, but I don't know how long the car battery would last.
If you're talking about using them during daylight, the kinos will be useless.
Thanks Barry!
I was hoping to use the 2 kinos as a fill in extreme shade wth the background in the mid to late afternoon vast open space (a hill overlooking the Hudson river at West Point). Am I being completely unrealistic?
I recently used a 4bank flo outside as fill for an interview (much like the Diva).
It around 4pm and the flo light was literally just outside of the frame on the talent (maybe 2 feet away from her face)... it was barely noticable. It did give me a little bit of fill...but nowhere near as much as I really needed.
So yeah, Barry's right on this - I'm not sure its going to do you a whole lot of good.
Definitely probably more trouble than its worth.
Looking back, I would have been better off using a reflector on a stand and working with the natural light.
