It had its moments. I liked it well enough to own the DVD. Can't go wrong with Ridley Scott. I especially liked Saladin. And Alexander Siddig is really up and coming. Never would have seen that coming when he was on Star Trek: DS9.
The romance was a little lame though. Which seems to be the case with most movies these days. Not a lot of believable romances anymore.
I had to see it because of Ridley Scott. Then I was bored out of my skull and had to turn it off about half way. Same thing with "We Were Soldiers". I have no patience for film lately. Where are the good movies that aren't dead retreads?
Was it just me or was the dialogue really hard to hear at many points in the movie? I have a DVR (tivo like equipment from Time Warner Cable) and I had to rewind many times to make out what the characters were saying. To my ears the background overpowered the dialogue at times.
And yes I agree this was underrated. Not an amzing movie but entertaining.
I liked it, but honestly I'm getting tired of that one shot where two opposing armies charge at each other and collide in an incomprehensible mess. It was cool in Braveheart. Now it should be retired.
