Kinda O/T-DVD releases

I kinda noticed this a while back but thought it was just me until my friends noticed it too, but why are DVD's being released sooooooooo quickly after the the movie now a days? I remember when you had to almost wait a year for the dvd to come out. Now the badder the movie the quicker the release. It first caught my attention when "flight of the pheonix" came out, 3 months later the dvd was released.

It's because DVD releases are now more profitable for the studios than Theatrical distribution ... in most cases.

There's also a theory that if a film hits DVD faster, then that will curb piracy.

They've found out that, if they rush the DVD to the shelves while the movie is still somewhat fresh in the public consciousness, they stand a better chance of selling more.

The last thing they want is to have someone look at the DVD cover and say "I kinda remember that movie" and walk by.
