I was watching some sports today and saw the phantom cam in action
and well has anyone ever noticed how the killer cams have killer names

Phantom
Viper cam
Cinealta
Genesis
RED one

The sad part about the CineAltas are that is the name of their entire line. Technically the EX-series is a CineAlta.

The upper level Digital Cinema cameras are actually pretty lamely named. F900, F23, F35. But they are amazing amazing cameras.

The Viper still has the coolest name though.

Dalsa "Origin" is eerily similar to "Genesis" in meaning. Cinealta is pretty weak and only has a profound sounding name because we know and accept it. I doubt someone not of this industry would agree that RED and cinealta were badass names without knowing the cameras themselves.

Panavision has always had pretty fly names for its film cameras: Millenium XL, Gold II, Platinum, Panastar, etc. They don't mess with numbers! Also, Panavision's only 16mm camera was nick-named after an employee back in the day. So now all Panavision 16mm cameras are nicknamed and referred to as an 'Elaine'. She still works somewhere in the building to this day.

Arri has kept the cameras cool but the names lame with 235, 435, 416, 35-III, etc. Arri continues to keep it pretty weak with the D20 and D21. Isn't the D20 eminems rap group? I heard they just bought out the Dalsa Origin camera, so lets hope they don't change it to 01035 or something like that.

You wonder why Panasonic, Sony, and other digital makers don't name cameras. Panny had the Varicam... which is pretty straight forward and not that cool, although the camera is cool.
