I'm sure there may be some people here who have experience with using Kickstarter.
I'm trying to plan out my kickstarter campaign for a feature length film I'm doing, it's low budget (200k-500k range). I was going to use non-union actors as well as myself (I'm union) but since I see so many of those kickstarter productions with some name actors attached to them (i.e. Julia Stiles, Malcolm McDowell, and countless others) I'm considering this route (i.e. using one or two name actors in the cast outside of the non-union actors). Especially since you pretty much have like 30 days to raise the money, seems like it might help a bit.
I'm wondering how exactly does one go about attaching a name star before they even have the money upfront yet? I tried doing some research and I've learned that SAGAFTRA lets you sign what's called a Schedule G form (I think) which pays the actor a flat fee of about $65k. But beyond that I don't know.
I realize that you have to go through the actor's agent first. Anyone have any idea how this whole procedure works if you want to hire them for a Kickstarter production?
On a slightly separate note.... since this is my first kickstarter, maybe I'm getting too ahead of myself and should just stick to using myself and non-union actors?
