Keyframed Desaturation

Hey AE gurus, I hope I am just being stupid and missing something obvious.

I am Color Grading a film right now and it desaturates slowly throughout.
I can do this by appying multiple instances of the hue/saturation effect, but for the final shot of the film I would like the trasistion from heavily desaturated to B&W to be obvious in the one shot, but you can't keyframe that part of the effect.

Any ideas?

One thing you can do is just have two instances of the same clip on top of each other with different effects setting and just keyframe the opacity of the top frame.

Keyframe the amount of blending using the Tint filter, set to it's default mapped colors. You should use the Tint filter rather than the Hue and Saturation anyway, as it is more accurate, though I have no idea why.

Or, you can use a duplicate layer completely desaturated above the colored layer, with it's blending mode set to color and keyframe the opacity of that top layer.

Thanks guys!

Matt I especially like the color blending mode idea... if I hadn't had the brain fart that made me forget fading opacity on a second layer, I would have never have came to that conclusion.
