He's to be added to this list, eh? Shameful stuff, that.

I liked Clerks and Mallrats (to some degree), I admire him for his work in other areas too but I do agree with Ot2bC, (on every point)
He does have his place in indie history-no debate, should he get an award? I like to see the outsiders do good, maybe he will get back to his roots?
Maybe not.

What the hell is it with having to make every t.v. show into a movie. The majority of these shows weren't even good on television. When do we get The Love Boat  or Love American Style  and where are Kojak, Quincy and Perry Mason

Dude, that's a scary image. Damn...

I need to re-imagine the Brad Pitt is Sofia Copolla scenario just to get it out of my head.

I love cross-over posts! :cheesy:

Bad Dialogue

Bad Dialogue

Ever notice how EVERY character in a Kevin Smith film talks exactly the same way? He is terrible and writing character dialogue. He only knows how to write for one type of person and that is Kevin Smith. Watch Dogma and you'll see. It's like one big, monotone rant.

There is no film I wanna see more then, Miami Vice.

Personally, I'm probably not going to see it. But at least Michael Mann is directing. It's kind of painful to watch the old series. It's no surprise that Don Johnson never hit the big time.

I like Don, especially in Tin Cup.

But about Kevin (I know his films have been lauded and demonized on this site), I think he is a guy who was in the right place at the right time. He was given an opportunity most of us would love, and he's riding it until the end. I can't blame him for that. And I doubt he was behind getting this award. He's the kind of guy I would love to hang out with.

That being said, he makes sub-par movies (even by today's standards) that happen to relate to and ever-shrinking demographic. He has tried to grow up as a filmmaker and so far has failed. But he's kind of like Bill Shatner to me. He knows he's a hack and he'll be the first one to poke fun at himself. Does he deserve this award? Not in my book. But I still like the guy, if not his films. I did like Dogma though...but I'm Catholic.

EDIT:
He does know how to do something that most people here don't though. He knows how to make a good living making his own movies. That's gotta count for something.

I completely agree with you across the board and think you said what I said, only better and more coherently. I would hang out with Kevin Smith and if I was in his situation, I'd ride is just like he is.

I don't understand remakes from tv series. Even the Miami Vice thing; why even call it Miami Vice ? WHy does it have to be Tubbs and Crockett? That has nothing to do with the story.

And Colin Ferrell I used to like after seeing him in Tigerland (For Irish purposes as well) but I find him annoying as all hell these days

Tigerland was very cool but he has done NOTHING since then. NOTHING.

The best thing Kevin Smith ever did was 'An Evening With Kevin Smith' because it is his films with better camera work (in case you haven't seen it, it's just Kevin doing a Q & A session telling stories to college auditoriums).

I'm serious, his best work (and honestly funny if not full of nothing but name dropping goodness).
