Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

I was looking through my archives of Kevin Smith productions and I found a clip from the Jay Leno Show - One of Smith's forgotten and almost unknown shorts - "The Flying Car".

It stars Jeff Anderson and Brian O'Halloran. They are the two guys from Clerks (Randal & Dante) just incase you don't know them. In any case, I thought it would be nice to share one of Smith's unknown shorts with ye, so I uploaded it to my server.

It's the low res version - if you require a high res version for your collection then feel free to contact me. Anyways, without further ado, I give you the flying car.

Enjoy :)

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

WOW!

That was really long, really boring, mostly pointless, and the punchline was obvious less than halfway in! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Makes me completely lose sight of why I ever liked Kevin Smith in the first place.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

:D

I loved it. Reminded me of the Clerks scene and the story of the dude breaking his neck; well you know.....

I think Smiths best work was Clerks and havent been too into anything else he has done. That was good. Thnaks for sharing.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

Np John. I think Clerks is probably his best production too. It inspired me amongst alot of other people in this field today..

I say bring back Brian & Jeff.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

I thought the Flying Car short was funny. I've enjoyed all of Kevin's movies, but my favorite of the lot is Chasing Amy.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

I'll have to agree w/Jimerson on Kevin Smith. I thought, being in my teens and working at actually working at a video store, he was the greatest thing since Tarantino, that is until I started to study cinema history and got serious into filmaking. I've lost count of the film festivals I've gone to, with many kids films copying Kevin Smith-isms(dialogue, situations, overall theme), and totally SUCKING!! Teen situations, with clever, witty, teenage dialogue does not equal great director. Clerks is funny as hell, but come on, the whole movie is a medium wide shot. Again, to be fair, funny-ass dialogue is Kevin Smith's greatest strength, and his movies did get better, but I'm not going to be putting his name along the likes of Hitchcock, Spielberg, Tarantino, Fincher, or M. Night anytime soon.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

I was in tears for the first 45 minutes of “Chasing Amy” – I don’t often laugh that thoroughly at a movie, but that one was frickin’ hilarious.

However, this clip was a conversation that had been done before, only about twice as long with a subject matter change. The essentials were the same.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

I wouldnt for a second put SMITH in the great filmmaker category. A couple Pretty Good/Funny films to his name and thats about it.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

I don't think, nor have I ever thought that Kevin Smith was the best director/producer/writer of all time, but what I do think is that he is "good" at what he does, and that is slapstick comedy movies.

He is very witty and creates very relatable characters. I think the fascination with Kevin Smith is due to his evident indie to big player story. We have all seen Clerks - the 25k movie and at the same, I was amazed that he could produce a great low budget movie for the price of a car.

I think that this was very inspirational to some people. Who else would give $1m budget to an unknown to produce mallrats? Although mallrats did flop at the box office (which many worthwhile movies do), I think Kevin Smith is a very intelligent man, and a very good producer of slapstick humour.

He suprised me with Chasing Amy, a love story blended with humour. Only Kevin Smith could pull that off and make it work.

And then, he created Jay & Silent Bob. You can't deny that you love those two characters, and if you don't, you should seek counselling. They are funny, predictable and have no regard for anything. It's Kevin Smith at his best.

I personally respect the opinion of anyone who doesn't like Kevin Smith or his products. I however will still think highly of him, I always have. He is the reason I busted my ass for months on end to save up for a dvx and my equipment.

Hell **** it, I didn't care if I succeeded or failed, I did it because I said "Hey, get this. I'm going to try produce a film" and I spent the next 3 months writing up a script (still to be shot). Would I have wanted to get into this if I never watched any of Kevin Smith's films? Probably not. We all have our own reasons for what we do with our lifes.

You get inspiration from Tarantino or Lucas, but I got mine from Kevin Smith.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

I could be wrong, but I don't think the TV show ever aired. I think they just shot a pilot and it didn't get picked up.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

Hrm Strange, Jim Bruer is in it. Funny guy, IMDB says it sucks however..

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

This clip is from Saturday night live if memory serves. Be careful. Putting up the clip is copyright infringment.

Love everything Smith has done. Thanks to critics, to many people have forgotten how to watch a movie. To sadly hear an average joe come out of a film and say " I'm sorry but I just didn't get his motivation" or , "Like they could have really jumped off of the edge of the dam and land on a helecopter" is just depressing...
Come on people. It's a movie...sit back and enjoy...Leave reality at the door. It's not ment to be real.

You know, there really are no such things as Lightsabers and Nemo can't really talk.

Yeah, right. Next you'll say that Indiana Jones is fake too.

Re: Kevin Smith Fan's Rejoice!

So, David, if I thought that clip was long, boring, pointless, the punchline obvious, and a rehash of what Smith has done numerous times, it's MY fault, and not the clip's?   ::)
