Kessler Crane counterweights

Got a crane recently, and picked up some counterweights...I'm curious though, does anyone have a good method of transporting these things?

There's room in the Kessler case, but I don't really wan them sliding around wildly in there (and I'm not sure the case can sustain the weight, anyway).

I could probably buy a dumbbell bar and just carry them like that, too.

What I'd rather have is some kind of rod with a "hook" or carry handle thing that I could slide the weights onto. There are about 5 plates total for counterbalancing, and it would just be nice to stack them on some kind of rod with a handle at the top.

The only other idea I had was to just get a plastic bin from Wal-Mart and put them in there. Nothing glamorous, but cheap and easy I suppose.

Anyway, let me know what you normally do and if you have a good solution for this.

Thanks!

Somewhat related....not to the weights, but the crane itself....what do you all typically use to mount your LCD monitors on a crane?

For the weights, I just use a tote bag I got at a trade show. I only need about 22-28Lbs. for proper balance (8' crane).

I originally used a Super Clamp and attached the monitor to the crane....but have much better luck mounting the monitor to a boom or C-stand and keep it right next to the tripod the crane is on. Works for me.

Thanks for that info...I must have about 20 of those bags laying around, I'll try that out. Yeah, I think mine balances about the same amount of weight.

Bought a super clamp to do exactly what you're talking about (attaching to crane)...didn't think about the C-stand though.

Great...thanks again!

I use a milk crate for about 35 lbs. Keeps them from sliding all over and the crate
has handle inserts on it.

I carry mine in a small duffle. About 55 lbs worth.
I like having the shoulder strap.

About monitor placement. I have tried both mounting on the crane itself in various location and the c-stand solution.

C-stand works best unless you have to rotate more than 180 degrees or so

I also use a clamp to mount my monitor to the Kessler Crane. I like that because it is easy to move the clamp between the front and back of the crane depending on how I am shooting.

For those of you who say you mount your monitor beside the crane on a C stand how does it work when you need to move the crane left or right vs up and down? How do you still see the monitor. Recently in an outdoor wedding where the bride arrived in a horse drawn carriage that first went completely around the area of the ceremony I was turning the crane almost 360 degrees and if the monitor had not been mounted on the crane itself to I could not have done it.

Something of interest...

I was at Home Depot on Sunday...plumbing aisle, looking at pipes...they've got 1 inch threaded pipe and a floor flange. That's perfect for sliding on the weight plates and supporting them, but that's where my brainstorm ended. Would need some kind of threaded removable handle at the top...didn't see anything that fit the bill other than just putting another floor flange on top, but that's not really too easy to carry that way.

Anyway, if anyone's got an idea for that handle, it would be a pretty good solution for this.
