hey,

im looking at cranes, and after looking over many posts, iv come to understand that kessler is the one most people like...

i dont have that much money, and am looking at the 8' crane. my question is, will my 503 head with bogen 351MVB legs handle the kessler 8 footer?

and also, is the 8' the one to get?

its been discussed befor, i know, but iv gotten alot of mixed info.

thanks alot.

If you're worried about your 503, Kessler just came out with a fluid swivel that will mount to your sticks. It's another $200, but it will save your head in the long run. The 503 should work for light use, but I wouldn't put the Kessler on there a lot. So, I'd save up a little more dough and add the swivel to the 8' crane. You can always buy an extension, if needed, down the line.

even if it is super lightweight you will still need to put counterweights. i have an 8' crane and i use 35lbs of weights for the dvx only and 50lbs when i have my 35 adapter and rod support on board. my crane weighs only 20lbs by itself. so between it, the camera stuff and the counterweight it totals almost 90 lbs.

better plan on your tripod/head bearing some weight. fortunately my crane mounts directly to the sticks and has it's own pan/tilt mount (glidecam camcrane 200). i looked at kessler, cobra, skycrane, etc and found that they were all comparable. i chose the one i have to save my 503 head from being worn out.
