Keeping food from Sticking on CAR?? help

Hi Guys,
I have a script that calls for someone eating inside a car, and then the food goes all over the place. And I mean ALL OVER. Probably a burger, with mayo, and mustard and ketchup, lettuce, fries, etc... Or maybe a Hot dog. not sure yet.
I will probably rent a car, but how can I keep the food from sticking on the car.

I know I can get scotch guard, probably leather seats (or better vinyl). I thought about saran wrapping the car some how so I can do more than one take without having to steam clean the whole car in between takes?

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciate it.

Wait--you're going to rent a car, and then TRASH it?

Aw, c'mon man, you know that aint right.

My first thought is to lightly spray the interior lightly with a non-stick cooking spray--but not a fabric interior! Leather or vinyl only. It'll still require a good cleaning up, though. However, it might shine like hell, especially with lighting. Best bet may be not to apply anything to the seats and just to all the food as dry as possible. Pile on the lettuce, onions, and pickles, etc. (I'd pat 'em dry, first, though--pickles do have that vinegar stink), but lay off the mayo, ketchup, and ESPECIALLY mustard. That stuff can STAIN.

If you NEED the look of the wet mess, try to come up with prop substitutes for condiments that are easy to clean (although not necessarily edible). Gels are good, because they have that shiny liquified appearance, but come up clean.

Spray the car with Pam ?

Go with a rental and the cheap insurance they offer.

Use a car from an Auto Junk Yard ?

Maybe describing the shot may work better ? Is the car integral ? Is it a maxi-pad gone bad scene ?

Cute. Not sure if it sells ketchup, but it's amusing. The guy driving has great delivery.

My two cents (skip if you hate suggestions):

The guy squirting the ketchup, though, kinda disappears in the scene. He barely grunts. Shouldn't he be the star of the scene! He's the guy loving the product!

I think Heinz would like to see the DESIRE in him for the ketchup, that makes him ignore his freind's pleas (motivation!). Cut to his eyes looking at the fries, then a cut to his POV, with the ketchup squirting in slow motion all over the fries? Chorus of angels, or is that too cliche'? Anyway, then cut back to the 2-shot (normal motion) with the friend No-no-no-ing him to death. He's in a reverie, however, that cannot be broken--mesmerized by the luscious ketchup cascading all over the fries in an almost sexual way. Then when he rides by with ketchup all over his face, I'd direct him to be less "wild/crazy/manic" and more of a rapturous/joyous (though still thoroughly insane) laugh. I think that combination would really jack up the payoff, IMHO.

I'd leave everything else the same, just more in-depth treatment of the ketchup guy. Great shoot! Awesome technical.

I loved it - it was easily the best of the group. I've watched it a dozen times and it still makes me laugh. No affiliation.

Hi Bonanza,
Thanks for the criticism. I like the ideas. We probably won't re shoot it thought, but good ideas none the less. Next commercial I make, I'll be sure to go through an "Idea Brief" to iron out what we want out of the commercial.

Taormina,
thanks for your support. Glad you liked it. :)
