Keeping DV clip timecode when printing to tape?

Anyone know how to keep each clips TC when printing back to DV tape via the "Edit to Tape" option? I need to keep the TC of each shot in tact and if I can also get the date info written to the DVCAM tape that would be much better.

Any help appreciated. I figured out how to do this in EDIUS but not in FCP.

FCP doesn't send out TC, AFAIK. If your deck suports preset TC you can preset the TC on the deck to match the TC of the clip in FCP, but that could be a big PITA if you have a lot of clips. Another option is you could use the TC reader filter to add a TC burn onto the image (and generate a text layer to add the date).

Really it doesn't support TC reading of the clips? My deck does support external TC or internal...I don't want to have burned in Timecode, I just need to retain the clips for future reference if I ever need to recapture. Weird because I did this in EDIUS without a problem.

You can play back from the Viewer and record to your deck, that'll do it. FCP assumes that if you put stuff into a Sequence, you've created a completed film, and are outputting as such. What happened to the original tape you captured from?

Hi, ok I will try playing all the clips back from the viewer, if it works.

It was shot on P2, so they've been formatted long before. I could just dump back to hard drives but I want to have a tape backup since tape is so cheap and safer.
