Like a bunch of new camera purchasers, I kinda got ahead of myself by wanting everything for the camera and making it just perfect.
I ordered the DVG-51 camera glove two months ago from B&H and it arrived a couple of days ago (Kata only released the model a week or two before).
Unfortunately, I'm not happy with it and I'm gonna send it back. The $150 didn't bother me if it worked well, but the working well was the problem.
I saw it @ NAB and it looked really cool, but I didn't study it closely. I noticed the shortcomings when I put it on my own camera.
I didn't want it to protect against rain, just minor scrapes and dings and knocks....even though real users never worry about that! ha.
The problems are as follows:
- Makes changing the battery a pain.
- COMPLETELY covers all of the buttons on top including the menu buttons.
(this is nuts since you ALWAYS are using the menu buttons).
- Almost completely covers the GAIN switch and the WHITE BALANCE switch.
- FOCUS ASSIST is hard to get to too...this alone would *horrify* Barry! ha. I love me some focus assist.
- The little clear plastic velcroed window for the LCD isn't big enough on the upper right, so it's a little stubborn when opening the LCD flipout.
The concept is phenomenal...it really is...however, it just covers up too many important buttons.
oh well.
