Kata Camcorder Guard?

I have one and in fact wrote it up in my August DV Magazine column.

It provides wonderful protection for the camera.

I cannot seem to get mine to fit exactly, however. While it has great velcro-secured openings for all of the camera ports, I cannot get it to fit properly over the firewire/headphone opening. So, I can use it while shooting P2 cards but not while shooting to the Firestore or directly to FCP via firewire.

I suppose it has to do with the way I am trying to fit it over the hand strap. Nonetheless, it is a good product and once I get it fitting properly it wil be a great product.

I used to have a similar Porta Brace cover for a Sony EVW-300 and never took it off until I sold it.

The protection it provided was so good the camera looked absolutely pristine.

I also have the product and have the same 'fit' issues. I only have p2 cards so its fine.

I purchased for desert shooting= keeping sand out of the cameras as much as possible, and it works well for that....

Great product in principal, I have one too. I also have issues with it fitting properly though. I have found that it is too tight around the barrel of the lens which can interfere with the rings. Good luck changing a larger sized battery easily. I also find that the clear cover over the tape door does not completely cover over well either. Annd... I agree that it is difficult to use with a FireStore.

So with all these issues why do we still like this product?? Because in "principal" it is way nicer than the PortaBrace I guess...

I was just in touch with Kata customer service and they noted that the first batch of DV glove for HVX was not engineered correctly. They will be releasing updated version in about 3 months. Meanwhile, I would suggest writing to them and explaining the improper fit. Kata will make good on it for you.
