Karaoke visuals in AE? (Filling text)

Hey,

This isn't as random as it sounds lolz.

I'm doing a video for a band and was thinking I could also do a sing-a-long version for kitch quaint funsies.

I.E. Where I have the lyrics on the bottom and as they're sung the words slowly fill up with yellow.

Does anyone happen to have a smart way to do this or is it all about the hand graft of timing it all in AE?

You can do it in ae. But following audio in ae is difficult, since scubbing is choppy. I would use your nle, create the text in white and yellow (or whatever colors you chose), overlay them exactly and use a linear wipe to reveal the top layer as the lyrics are sung.
