K-tek 79cc question

I just bought this boom used and am having a really frustrating time with it. I cannot seem to get it to consistently close up to its smallest size. Is there a specific order I should be closing and tightening the section in order to have the internal cable coil back up correctly? It should be closing down to 20" and when i get to the very end I have aout 4" of the last section extended and I get a "bouncy" kind of resistance if I try to close it anymore.

Anyone have experience with this Avalon series of boompoles that could help me out?

Thanks,

Dustin

The last time I used their Avalon series, not sure which one specifically, I remember it did the same thing.. but I never could figure out how to make it completely collapse so I just dealt with it

As Rippie said the cable is bound up. There is a twist in the coil of the internal cable that keeps it from collapsing fully. However, I don't think you can remove the bottom cap as its glued on if its like my Avalon pole. What I had to do was loosen all of the sections then pull the cable out the mic end of the pole till the kink appeared. Then I carefully twisted the coil back into shape as I feed it back into the pole. Took me a few tries to get it right but now its working properly again. I got my pole new and it bound up after using it awhile. I think what happened was I was twisting the sections as I opened them and eventually the coil kinked because of that. Hope that helps.

You can remove the male XLR connector on the bottom by inserting a female connector & unscrewing... You can then stretch out the cable until you find the bind & unwind.
