JVC's new GY-HC900 camcorder

Actually pretty impressive specs including 10 bit recording.

Agreed. It's just what with amortization schedules for small TV stations, they need to get a lot of years out of a camera to make a purchase of often several to dozens of units. Sure many live in the 1080 world today but what about in three years? Five years?

I live in a top 25 market and the locals are barely doing live shots in HD. Some of them cheap out on bandwidth so bad with their LiveU's, etc. that their LS's and other content sent over them are worse than SD out of a microwave truck 20 years ago. I would be very surprised if they have moved beyond HD in the next five years.

On a side note, has an over-the-air transmission standard even been set for UHD/4K here in the US?

And... Almost all of the ENG that I still shoot is 720P.

Agreed an ENG 1080 camera can still have its place being announced even in 2018, but.... at US$14K???? Dunno, that part doesn't make sense.

If you're bringing out still 1080 cameras you're targeting the lower end so make it at least half that price, or more like a QUARTER of that price!

Well, according to B&H, Sony still has the F900 ($80K), a couple HDCAM(tape) ENG cameras and even a DigiBeta(SD TAPE)($44K) ENG camera available, NEW. Albeit, special order.

Yup, but they're not announcing them as new models!

They're just hanging around, waiting for some poor sucker to clear out old stock.
