JVC releases affordable 4K acquisition/display solution

The camera is on my desk. It arrived yesterday. I should do something with it. Right? Timelapse of a day @txmedia?

If you can figure out how to defeat all of the noise reduction in that thing so that framegrabs look less like an oil painting and more like 4K awesomeness (noise included - that's OK!)... that would be awesome. It is quite possible that all of the framegrabs we've seen so far were by some insane person who hates all grain. Please check!

Post some stuff please!

Then if you could take it apart and figure out how to sync two of those suckers together for stereo 3D 60fps 4K (since there's no Genlock - sorry to be mentioning this for like the 10th time in one week in reference to all of these new camera), that would rock. Or heck, it might just be an awesome motion capture cam, if you could... sync... oh, nevermind :)

Hell I still keep my 42" CRT TV around just to test footage to the lowest common denominator and besides, 1/2 my cable stations are still SD !!!

Best way to grade, PERIOD!!! I worked in a 2 inch recording studio back in the day... Yeah, I'm getting old lol... We always used to take our masters, burn them off to disc and play them in a crappy boom box and a car... That way if it sounded good on all three(In the studio, car and boom box), you knew it would sound good no matter what... Mastering for the best cross platform performance has always been a good idea when your trying to reach a general market.

I did watch it on the original setting, but it's still being seen on a 1920x1080 computer monitor, so it's still not true 4K (I don't think).
Either way, it looks very sharp, lots of detail.

Sharp , yes... But I hate the look. Looks to much like video, also with the lack of interchangeable lenses this is not the camera for me.

So simply copy youtube link and put it here www.keepvid.com, hit Download and from the list of resolutions choose biggest resolution (Original) .mp4 file. With right click 'Save as" save video on your HDD and then open downloaded footage in QuickTime or in Premiere, scale it to 100% of its size and hit Play. And you are watching 4K resolution 1:1, pixel by pixel. In QT its just upper half of frame but its better than nothing. Yes it dont fit to your monitor but you can finaly see how good 4K really is :)

Hey Philip try to shoot some quick action like sports, speeding cars etc. I wonder how camera and codec keeps with it. All demo footage was too much static or timelapse. Also wonder how big rolling shutter it has (on rotating fan and also quick panning on tripod method). And how it keeps in very dark or very bright enviroment with lot of highlights (glittering waves in sun). Also skin color will be interesting, zooming brick walls (moire) etc :)

"Simply???" That sounds like a lot of work. I'll try it...later.

Odd, there hasn't been a single test of this camera. The FS700 isn't even released yet, and it's had several tests put online.
JVC, why aren't you getting this camera in the hands of professionals?

Ok. We shot a video on the GY-HMQ10. It's a shot of the screen of the DMC-GH2 and I am going over my favorite settings on the DMC-GH2 camera for shooting video. Will post soon.
