JVC JY-HD10U & Premiere

(This was written right after I got home from a shoot, so please forgive me if it rambles a bit)

I didn't know where else to put this, but since it does mainly invlove Premiere, I thought I would start here.

To keep a long story short, I needed to dump a tape that was recorded on an associate of mine's JVC JY-HD10U. (it was recorded in some funky format from that camera that the DVX100A or B couldn't read, and no it wasn't JVC's HD)

I hooked up the camera to my computer via the firewire, and Premiere will not display the video on that tape in that "strange format" (I think its the "DV" setting, not the SD).

Premiere displays/captures ALL SD tapes fine that may have been recorded from any other camera and played onthe JVC, but it will not display the weird "DV" format OR the HD format from this camera. (Even when its played in the camera that it was recorded from - the JVC)

Premiere can control the camera - and the video even displays on the EVF of the JVC, but Premiere will not see it (as in display it in the capture window) - although you can see the time code running.

I went to adobe's site, and everything that they said about the JVC I checked out it was set properly.

I am using Premiere CS4 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Is this a codec issue? I thought CS4 had all of these codecs installed with it. Like I said.. Premiere can see/capture video from the JVC is it is in everyday STANDARD Definition - even if it was captured from another camera...so I know it is NOT a firewire communication issue.

There is also another reason why I bring this up..and I will more than likely put the rest of the details in another post.. but this associate of mine has said when it comes to other projects: "I will not put my name to anything that is not shot is 1080i"

From what my research shows - the JY-HD10U cannot shoot 1080i. I may be comepletely wrong on this, but I am going off of searches that I have done.

Why does this matter? Because the JVC's (he has two of the same model -HD10U) are the only 2 cameras that I have EVER seen him use - although he claims to have four cameras, and he is the owner of this supposed big time film making company. (Supposedly Hollywood level)

I also want to dispel the belief that HD (even if it is a JVC, and I understand they are not "top of the line" when it comes to HD.) is the end all to wedding video. I shot part of my wedding today in "HD" on this JVC. It wasn't a crucial angle, as I cover the main angles with the two DVX's, and another friend of mine was covering a 3rd angle with a Canon GL2. (Frame mode, 16x9)

Dark High-Def footage is still dark footage. As the Bible says: "you cannot make bricks without starw" and I also say "You cannot make an image without light, even if its a high def camera."

In any event... Iam digressing from teh topic of this post. I was just wondering about the JVC and premiere... any sugestions/solutiuons welcomed.
