JVC HD100 and AB batt problem

I have a serious issue going on, and really need some suggestions to resolve it. I got a pair of Dionic 90 batteries with the JVC promotion about a year ago. While I was trying to shoot my step daughters wedding today, both batteries would die within a half an hour or less. They had been fully charged, and in fact still showed a full charge, but after a short time the alarm would go off and low voltage would show up in the viewfinder before the cam shut off.

Any ideas on what is going on here? More importantly, how do I fix it? I haven't used them a whole lot, and certainly haven't left them in the heat, or abused them in any way that I can figure.

You might be better posting this in the Other Camera section.

Did both batteries start doing this at the same time? If so it must be a cam problem. Are you sure the batteries are making proper contact with the cam tabs?

I wasn't sure where exactly to post it, as it also concerns the Dionics. I figured some wise mod would know what to do with it. As far as I can tell yes, everything is making contact. And yes, this started about 2 months ago- on another shoot.

God is trying to send you a message about the wedding? Seriously though, if they're losing their charge like this it's probably not going to get better. You'll likely have to get new batteries.

If you get to the point where you're just about to throw them out... freeze them in a ziplock bag for a couple days, thaw, fully run the batteries down again, repeat a couple times. Can work with laptop batteries. If that does work you could save them for last resort batteries.

Believe me, it wasn't necessary. Of course, when her older brother got married I pretty well had doubts about that one too, but shot it at my wife's request. I took my time, and sat on the tapes for awhile... just to see if it lasted before editing the footage. After some rough patches, I decided to cut it for their 3rd anniversary.

Not long after that she drugged him, then she and her boyfriend beat his brains in, sliced his throat, and left him for dead. He's still alive and all, but it is either by luck or grace of God. I'm just hoping it wasn't because of the video.

As far as the batteries go, it's strange the way they start at like 17.5 volts according to the camera. then quickly go to 15. something, then again to 11.6 before shutting off. I'm not running any lights on it, just the stock mic and an Azden SGM 1000 shotgun which has it's own battery. If the cam just suddenly went out without warning, I'd say it was a bad connection.

good heavens, that's awful. did your edited footage include a clip of him with the bridesmaid or something? craziness.

Nothing like that... really. But there was that bit from the dollar dances, when the Bride's father grabbed him and danced. I cut it real nice, slowed it down, and had Unchained Melody playing to it.

nice touch. on my next wedding video when it comes time for the vows, i'm going to cut to a clip of the rickrolled video. once it's done, i'll cut back to a shot of them leaving the church. i'll then fade to black with the words, "YOU'VE BEEN RICKROLLED!"

they'll probably demand their money back, but i change my phone number frequently, for that exact reason...

So, any ideas? Really, I need to get it taken care of, as this crap prevents me from working since I can't just stop everything to swap batteries and play around. Two charged batteries, and I couldn't shoot a whole tape.

Have you tried other batteries in the cam?

Do you have access to another cam to try the batteries are ok?

Could be pricey if it's a circuitry problem on the cam...

I don't have a second cam, and the only other batteries are the stock ones. I'll give them a try though. If I'm lucky, I might still be under warranty on both.
