I wonder whether 1/4-inch sensors with, um, "spatial offset" is the same hardware that was/is used on the HDC-DX1, HDC-SD1, HDC-SD3, AG-HSC1U and AG-HMC70? If so, these sensors are SO prone to vertical flare, but otherwise produce a nice picture. I have the SD1 and the image is not very detailed on busy scenes, but I attribute this to low 13Mbps rate of the first incarnation of AVCHD. With 35Mbps MPEG-2 things should look a bit better I think.
B&H posted the price for the HM100, $3.5K: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...specifications
This is the same price that the HMC150 was originally priced at B&H. If the HM100 will follow the HMC150 pricing, it will cost about the same.
Comparing the HMC150 and the HM100, 1/3-inch sensors and 21Mbps AVCHD on one side, 1/4-inch sensors and 35Mbps MPEG-2 on another side. Both cams use pixel shifting. The HM100 will come with a removable carrying handle and an external XLR shotgun mic and is 50/60Hz switchable right off the box, you can have the same functionality with the HMC154, but it is more expensive and is not sold in the States. I like contouring for focus assist better than magnifying of the center of the frame.
I would pay $2.5 for the HM100 to have it as a serious hobby-cam, I will not pay $3.5K for it, I'd rather buy the HMC150.
By the way, the new consumer HS300/TM300 will have 3MOS setup with 1/4-inch sensors, each 2Mpixels, no shifting! Panasonic pushes older tech to JVC?
