Jvc Gy-hd100u

Has anyone seen any footage from this camera? I LOVE the DVX. I absolutely love it. I love it so much, I bought TWO. But, I gotta keep Panny honest by finding out all I can about their competition. This JVC seems nice. For starters, their pricetag is MUCH MUCH lower than the originally thought $10,000 grand price tag. In fact, it's about the price of an upcoming HVX200. BUT, it has removeable lenses and the capacity to still use MiniDv tapes. This is VERY intriguing to me. Panny, I love ya, but you gotta earn my business.

A trip to DVInfo.net is in order. You'll see plenty of clips, as well as lots of discussion of the dreaded split-screen issue and other issues. Some people love the HD100, many people hate the split-screen and say that it ruins the product for their use.

I've used it extensively, several different cameras on several different occasions.

I bought one.

It's excessively defective, and it's been made very clear that the split-screen issue is not going away and cannot be eliminated, and that's a dealbreaker for me.

With any luck I'll be receiving an RMA# on Monday and I will be able to return mine and wash my hands of the whole experience.

Barry-

Thanks for the heads up. I will checkout dvinfo.net to read up. It just has such a beautiful form factor and looks like a sophisticated DVX with a 35adapter. And they dropped the price SIGNIFICANTLY since it was first introduced. So, that made it even more attractive. But, I will definitely take your words of advice and proceed with caution. Or more specifically, not proceed at all....

If you are worried about split screen, I'd suggest reading up about it and then testing it at the dealer's before paying for the camera. Some people are reporting no problems at all. The quality of the lens seems to vary too!

Absolutely. You may find it perfect for your needs, and the form factor is very nice, etc. And, you may find that you're not bothered by the split-screen. Or, you may get a camera that exhibits little no no split-screen, and in those cases you may find the HD100 perfect for your needs.

All I'm saying is, go into it with your eyes open, be aware of what the issues are, and make your decision upon being fully informed.
