JVC &" DVD player for monitor

Depends what you are looking for. From a review on cnet:
With some small adjustments to the limited picture settings, we were able to put a passable image on the 480x234-pixel LCD. It was softer than some we've seen, measuring around 230 lines of resolution on the Avia test disc. Colors were inaccurate (with limey greens and significant red push), but the DRC618N was capable of displaying the full range of black to white. Its picture won't impress videophiles
So, you are not going to get a sharp picture OR accurate colors. Both are reasons not to want this device for a field monitor.

thanks for that info...
I didn't see the review...
any suggestions on a better monitor for around the same price?

I haven't seen one. Maybe someone else can offer a suggestion. If you do find one please let us know.

Vitaly,
It depends on what you want a monitor for.
If you just need one for framing purposes, this would be fine, better yet Walmart has a 7" for $150.
If you need it for color and focus you're going to need a CRT, but not just any old CRt field monitor, you'll need one with plenty of resolution and color calibration settings. I don't think even the $700-800 ntsc monitors have good color calibration settings. You're probably looking at $1200.

well i would like one for color as well.. but I am not about to spend 1200 right now... so framing and focus would be good... thanks for the 150" suggestions... I'll check that out.

That lcd would only be good for framing and not focus. The resolution is too small on those inexpensive lcd monitors to support focusing.

I've got a 7" LCD and it's 480x234-pixels. It's totally useless, so, don't even go there. However, their are higher resolution small LCDs and you should be looking around for one
that is 800X480 pixels something like the following but not necessarily this one:http://www.xenarc.com/product/700v.html
This might work for focusing. Obviously, it's not going to do for true color representation, black levels or any other pic quality.
