Just want to clarify something with regards to DVDs

I have a concert that was shot all in HDV 30p so that it would look good on Vimeo (which it does). Now, it's time to export the whole thing to SD DVD. I exported a small section from FCP (current settings of course) just to run some tests since I've never actually done this before, and I'm running into what could be a problem.

Whenever I export from compressor with the 16:9 DVD presets, it comes out at 720x405. I guess that's the letterbox size? I'm trying to make it squeezed, so that I'm not totally throwing away 75 lines of resolution. This is exactly what happens when I use the presets specifically labeled as being 4:3. Is that the way to go? Most new TV's can stretch the squeezed 720x480 back out to the native aspect ratio of 16x9, right? Most DVD players can squeeze this down vertically, sending out a letterboxed image for older 4:3 TV's, right?

that may just be a resolution reporting issue. If you're using the 16:9 MPEG2 preset in Compressor it will be as good as can be in DVD. 16:9 native DVDs are automatically played fullscreen on 16:9 displays and 4:3 letterboxed on regular tvs.
