Just venting..

I think I hate audio... specifically I hate the audio on my film 'Absolution'.

it was shot a year ago and the whole film needed ADR..

to keep my venting story short, a falling out with my audio guy, no ADR given to me... , new audio gal, ADR take 3 & 4.... add in constant crashing from shiity Pro-tools.. stir into a bowl of "1 freakin year later after film was shot" and we get to where I am now..

waiting for ADR to be cut into film... delaying final mix session.. unsure if sound mixer is even still on board due to ridiculous delays from ADR..

sigh... shoot me now... finishing two films is actually a mental drain beyond what I thought it would be..

:kali:

hang in there, man. i've spent way too much time on stuff before, but once you get it done, it's so much better.

you've passed the point of no return, so just keep on truckin, it'll work out eventually.

Don't quit now you're too deep in.

(not saying you were ever going to)

I'm really bad at this encouraging thing...

What was the issue with the original location audio that made all of it unusable?

really shitty boom positioning... combined with a noisy road. Ambient sounds are so different from shot to shot. That and I really didn't have super experience sound guys on set. They had done it before, but they were more so on the post side.

and as an aside, I will finish her. In it's unfinished no mixed form it won awards at my schools fest (not saying much I know but still..) words of encouragement are definately nice though.

I am at the point where I am so close to having a great film finished.. yet still so far..

August 25th is my deadline, and who knows, maybe by then I will be here announcing some festivals I made it into.

peas.

I'm in the middle of ADR myself. We had to rerecord about 65% of the dialog. Long process, but generally worth it.

What version of ProTools on what platform? I've actually never had it crash on me during these ADR sessions. How many times can you say that about a program?

It was Pro-Tools 6.9 (LE?). It would freeze during a recording and just completely stall and crash. This was on Windows. It did somehing similar to a bug I have encountered in FCP. When it crashes during capture (FCP) sometimes it will just continue to capture random crap to the HD.. so you end up with some 20GB file by the time you force the program closed.

I think the same was happening with protools. It would end up with a stranged file that was like 2GB in size but couldn't be opened... so I think the prog would crash during recording and just keep recording.

Upgrading to a Mac Mini and Pro Tools 7 helped it seemed. That, and having 1GB of ram.

Powerbook and PT 7.0 is my combo and it's performed well. Sorry that you have had so many troubles.

Here's to an easier time finishing your ADR.
