just updated to 5.1 and can't color correct

When I drop a 3 way corrector on a clip and start moving the dials the canvas window doesn't change. In the viewer window you can switch from 3 way to video and see the change, which of coarse is inconvinient, but that doesnt matter because you can't implement the change to the clip by hitting command-R. In the timeline the clip doesnt change to red when you drop the filter on it.

I dont know what to do! :(

Pull the 3 way color corrector tab away from the viewer window and it will become it's own stand-alone window where you can adjust, and use the viewer to view the adjustments.

Better yes double click the clip you want to cc in the timeline and that will appear in the viewer and canvas, then when you switch to the 3 way tab you can see the output in the canvas.

yeah i get that, but i can't render the change.

Its not even that i cant render it, it says is doesnt need to be rendered, like it doesnt see that i changed the color, even though the color wheel is changed and the video in the video reflects the change. The timeline doesnt see the change nor the canvas.

I'm guessing it's not giving you a red render line for the same reason my Mac doesn't. You have enough horsepower to have RT playback of your 3-Way Color Corrector. It is an RT effect, after all. You don't have any problem at all.

As for draging the dot in the color wheels around, they drag very slow. If you hold the Option key it moves a little faster. If you hold the Command key it moves even faster, still.

3-Way Color Corrector is an RT filter, even with DVCPRO-HD. The filters/transitions/generators that are listed in bold print in the Browser window are RT effects.

One other slip I see folks do a lot, is to put filtes on the copy of the clip in the Browser, not the copy in the Timeline. Be sure you double click the clip in the Timeline window to open it in the Viewer window. If you open a clip from the Browser, hit F10 or whatever to drop it into the Timeline, then apply a filter to what's in the Viewer, what is in the Viewer is still the Browser copy. The Timeline copy is treated as a seperate entity from the Browser copy.

Just throw this stuff out there...

Again, I drag the effect into the clip in the timeline, then double click that clip so it pops up in the viewer window, click the 3 way filter and do my magic, but doesnt take effect in the canvas, just the viewer.

And it's not that I have plenty of horse power (although i'm sure I do) because no change is in effect, whether i try to render or not. I've been using FCP for 2 years, so I understand that option moves the correction faster, thats not the issue.

and it's not just Color Correction, none of the Filters work. I've repaired permissions and trashed the preferences and it's still doing it.

That's totally weird. I've never heard of that before. You say you're on 5.1. Update to 5.1.2 (with software updater). I've never heard of this problem before.

OOOOHHH!!!!!! I got it! You're hitting Cmd+R, which only renders highlighted clips in the Timeline. Try Opt+R to render everything.

Also, in the Sequence menu, in the first two Render sub-menus, make sure everything in there is checked.

Otherwise, I've never heard of this problem.

yeah I'm using 5.1.2

lol and yes 've tried both cmd AND opt+R

i have NOT tried making sure everything is checked in the render submenus, however that doesn't explain why the filter doesnt preview in the canvas. But I'll try that tonight (not home now)

thanks
