Just Shattered My Polarizing Filter :-(

Very bummed... :'( I was in NY last week and was about to head up to the top of the Empire State bldg for some great views after the rain. I put the 4x4 Tiffen filter over the anamorphic lens and then clipped it in with the binder clips (which I had done several time before). I decided it needed a little cleaning so I took it back out, cleaned it, and then fastened it back in but I guess I didn't do it well enough. It slipped out and landed on the sidewalk. I was very upset. I should have walked up and over 3 blocks to B&H and bought another one but I didn't realize how close they were. Oh well. Haven't looked at the footage yet but I'm sure it would have been crisper with the polarizer on. Can't cry over spilled milk (or spilled filter)... Myave I should invest in a Chrosziel Matte Box. I just don't want to add the extra weight to the camera or spend $1500.

that sucks... I think Optex makes a filter holder for the Anamorphic lens though, might help you out.

Geeeee.... ok, not a polarized-related post but "hardware" related anyway...

I just wanted to say how lucky guys you over there... just 3 blocks to B&H... :)

I'm currently working in Buenos Aires, Argentina... it is so difficult to find stuff here, after the disaster they had in december 2001... It's just so strange how such a lot of cine-related vendors just died or fell asleep, as appearently a lots of productions almost from Europe are being shot here, 1 peso is 3 times cheaper now...
... But when it comes to buying from abroad...

Well,

- I _couldn't_ find any Schneider filter, the official importer doesn't import any more, the best UV I found for my DVX was a Hoya HMC-or-the-like, multicoated anyway (just saw another thread here "aside", where Hoya is said to be not so bad).

- I'm loosing a lot of time looking for a possibly Gitzo boom and hopefully Lightwave shockmount and hopefully Lightwave wind damper for a Senheiser 416 I think I'll buying very soon (I'm just going to post a "what about it?" here). Yes I found the mic.

- I just _can't_ find a mattebox (saw a foto of the DVX with a very nice one, I called in, damn they got it in Italy, just aside the town I left a few months ago).

- I just _can't_ find a 10% green card, not even in Kodak... if Zoom uses one for the white balance with the DVX it must be the good "correction" for many situations.

If we decide to order at B&H we have much money for expedition + 30-50% =<8-o custom import tax, for stuff they do not produce at all here, and for any problem the vendor is based at some thousands miles distance...

Well, it's just basic stuff... not that I'm _glad_ to put money on it (frankly speaking I've just been resisting one long year in a well paying but _destructively_ boring job, ok it's over now :) but it was hard after being so "hippy" in Paris for more than four years, just preparing in various aspects for audiovisual projects), I just want things to come out pretty well... I'm planning to shoot a low budget fiction with the DVX... long job, my sweet recently married half insists that I just concentrate on it, but I think that if during such a long long journey I come to meet a few bucks in a commercial I'll just be glad to do it in the most insteresting direction I can drive it to.

(Ah yes, besides we can't ask for the same money here as in Europe or the USA, so we pay more for the "hardware" to earn less money. Well, there are other "+"s here, as well as other "-"s, but I'm going for the "+"s and I hope that I wan't have to face the worst "-"s.)
