Just saying hi from China, with some Qs...

Hey,

I'm a new member here. I've always planned to go the film/movie making route, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to go the acting route or directing, cause I love both equally and was going to eventually try the other out in due time.

But reading all these great posts, seeing the DVX100's great quality, and getting back that old movie making loving feeling from years ago, I'm definately going to get back into directing and creating them, maybe act in a few. Last time I did it I was 15.

Now here's the thing, I currently teach English in China until May 2005.

When I come back, I plan to attend some Film School, probably near Vancouver, BC, Canada (shout out to the other Vancouverites here), close to where I live.
I want to get the knowledge, but expand off that myself.

Questions:

1) Anyone been to CAPP College film program?

2) Anyone willing to let a 20 year old film making wannabe come hang out on your set/possibly help out with the odd nothing, simply to gain experience and see how its done? No pay needed.

3) What are some good recommended sites for getting started in digital video knowledge, besides this kickass one?

4) What's a good place to buy a DVX100a in Canada?

5) What's next for the DVX line?

6) How many of you actually sustain movie/film making as a career?

7) To take RCA input to your computer to edit, what is a good USB based piece of hardware that will give decent quality?

8) I'm also interested in doing stuntwork. Anyone using stuntmen at the moment that wouldnt mind me watching?

I'd love to hear from any of you regarding the industry, tips on getting started.

I'm stoked to be a part of this forum. Thanks for having me.

If you want some kicks from China, check out this little movie I made using a digital camera on Christmas Eve here. Chinese tradition in this city is definately interesting. http://www.desktopgamer.com/lhg/lhgce.avi

It's crappy quality, but I took a bunch more the next daywith a real camcorder I'm going to capture and edit soon.

So many questions, so little time. I'll try and post some answers when I get back home in 4 hours. Must go teach English too!

Whats up MatthewC! Welcome aboard!! You got questions I've got only 2 answers.

2) Anyone willing to let a 20 year old film making wannabe come hang out on your set/possibly help out with the odd nothing, simply to gain experience and see how its done? No pay needed.

If you're ever down in the North Cali area, you are welcome to check us out. I need slaves, i meant eniergetic filmmakers to help out. I could use a few stunt guys. You better have a good HMO or ancient chinese medicine.

4) What's a good place to buy a DVX100a in Canada?

You can order through EVS. They give discounts to DVXusers.

7) To take RCA input to your computer to edit, what is a good USB based piece of hardware that will give decent quality?

Go get your self a $15 firewire card. The quality is just as good as any hundrend dollar card.

Theres lots of valuable infomation you can get here on DVX. Welcome and try not to break any bones. I can see your avatar. Peace!!

Re: Just saying hi from China, with some Qs...

Cheers guys.

Well I'm gonna pop downtown tomorrow and see if I can find a card to do this stuff with. But I dont need firewire, as I only have RCA out on my camera right now. I just need RCA ino

Stuntwork, I would love to pop down and give it a shot. But I plan to take the two week course at The Seattle Stunt School, probably next year, before I get started. Or find a set I can sit on and watch the stuntmen work.

Oh, one more question:

Whats next after the DVX100a? Whats the next big one?

Thanks for the answers guys.

Hi Matthew,

if you teach English to foreigners, you may want to look up spelling for 'definitely'. ;)

Welcome aboard!
