just got my new skycrane "dwarf" jib

ok so i had my skycrane jr. for a while and its fun and when it got cold i started doing more stuff indoors and playing more with my doorway dolly and i started wishing my crane was a little bit smaller.

...so i email the nice people at skycrane.com and bob, the owner, called me and i sent him half of my skycrane jr. crane and he added a second fulcrum point, added another hole for the pulley and gave me a shorter cable and voila!

so i have an 8 ft crane when i need it and a 4 foot jib when the crane is too big.

bob asked me if i thought there was a demand for a crane that was also a jib...

here is a picture of it, nothing fancy just half a crane that is easily converted to a crane. a lot easier than building a jib from scratch.

yeah, i just LOVE things i can use for more than one purpose.

it just makes sense and saves packing space.

plus i just loved the way the skycrane works, its one of those designs that is just right, its sturdy but not a tank.

I think little jibs are the way to go. I have long & short & the shorty is it.

Matthew, like the jib...LOVE YOUR HOUSE! Beautiful wood work you have there, and I like the way the tv is recessed.

I can see from the photo that you extended the crane just so you could shoot kitty at the top of the perch. Right? :D

Re: just got my new skycrane "dwarf" jib

actually it just worked out that way.

i'm lucky we have really high ceilings so i can actually play with the crane with all 8 feet plus the tripod jacked up.

its too hard to get the cats to play on the kitty condo when you want to!

That is sweet, exactly what I would like.

Looks good Matthew, how much did that conversion cost (if you don't mind me asking)?

Re: just got my new skycrane "dwarf" jib

well i hate to give out the price because he had nver done one before as far as i know, so the price he quoted me might have been a loss when he did the work.

i will say it was quite affordable and well worth it.

yes but i already had the skycrane jr. and the original skycrane jr. + mod + bogen 3150 tripod is still less than that jib.

i love the skycrane, too many of the other ones seem either built like a tank or flimsy.

the skycrane jr. is right in the middle.
