Just got my new DVX100b

I am brand new to this site and I have to say that I have really enjoyed it.

Everyone seems so helpful and some of the work I have seen on here is really great.

My question...

I bought my cam brand new and I have nothing with it. Just the dvx.

What does everyone reccomend I buy?

Accesories?

Needed things vs. Good things to have?

Best places to buy?

Thanks very much everyone!

Gongratulations for your great camera choice!

I would first look for a decent camera bag or a hard case so your precious camera won't get hit.

The next thing to buy is definitely a tripod, and don't get the cheapest one. Buy at least something like this. (You can spend hundreds for those cheapo plastic velbon style tripods but once you go with a real tripod set you'll never look back.)

Bhphotovideo has also a 25$ rebate available for the buyers of this tripod set.

Good luck and enjoy your new camera :D

edit: Almost forgot, buy a 72mm threads UV-filter to protect your lens!

i gotta second both the case and the uv filter. here's a picture of my dvx100b in a pelican 1510. the 1510 is very nice hard case that is flight legal, and it has a handle and wheels. i think it goes for $130ish on b&h.

I also just bought the dvx, I've worked with it countless times before and I am really happy to have my own. Now, with that said... How much does a UV filter cost... does it just protect the lens from scratches?

A UV filter is used to protect the lense from any damage it can get from shooting on a sunny day. It's not like an ND though, which would cut light down to the lense depending on the ND's intensity.

Check that out, it's a Tiffen filter, great piece of equipment to have when shooting outside.

UV filter's do not protect the lense from scratches, rather that's up to you and your own handling of the lense. Treat that camera right man, and it'll provide you great service.
