1st impressions -
I know that's kinda cheesy but I'm celebrating by being high on redbull and vodka. I've been needing a new camera for soooo long. My trv900 had turned into sucha piece of **** and I had all these amazing gigs that could have been better, had I enough money to get the DVX. So whatever...
For what it's worth
This camera is SOLID. I haven't found a single flimsy piece on here. I've had other camera's before the 900 - VX2000, GL1. This one seems to be the best built out of those and also i feel it is better layed out than the XL1(s). I've always thought the XL1 to 'look' cool but that thing is gihugic.
Turning on the camera to F1 and the image in both EVF and LCD look so damn good. I have an order for a Sony PVM-14L2 and can't wait to see what it look like on that.
I have a varizoom stealth from the 900 and tried pluggin' that in to the DVX, thinking it should work. NOPE. So that means i'm gonna have to get a new controller. I just wished the zoom control on the DVX was smoother. I don't know if it's because its not worn in or what but when I push down slightly, it kinda nudges jerkily-like creeping slowly. Not very smooth. So maybe a new controller will remedy that?
I still haven't stucka tape in it. I'm scared. hahahah! Sony or Panazonic? Well my thing is that i've shot on Sony's for so long and my whole system is Sony, I'll probably have to stick to Sony as to not kill my new deck (dsr-11) or camera. The ongoing debate over what tape blah blah blah. Also I just ordered 2 DVXuser batteries. Had to reactivate the ole paypal account. Can't wait to take it out on long walks.
For now my 501 head will have to do. It feels a lot smoother now with more weight on it. The DVX is significantly heavier than the 900 or 2000. I like that. Chunky. I like that the bottom of the body is a big fat plate. No worrying about it tipping over. The DVX is sitting on its side in my new 1510 case. I still have to pluck the foam. I'm hoping to get better sticks for it. But first i need to get some audio gear to balance the whole set-up.

True That! Smooth as butta' I dig how quick you can level, and even setup / breakdown.

I still recall my first reaction when I took out the DVX, set it on the ground and the foam wrapping opened up. "HOLY ****! that lens' got Berth!" The bulldog stance I've heard so much about is not exagerrated at all.
Now that I'm used to the DVX's berth, any other cam is just awkwardly skinny by comparison
