Well, it arrived yesterday.
I must admit, I love this thing. The still images are pretty fantastic and it actually feels like a film SLR, except super fancy. I can't stand shooting photos with digital point and shoots because it feels artificial, but this thing is so much fun. It's not a bad deal, either. 780 dollars shipped with lens and it arrived in 4 days.
Still, I must admit that it made me appreciate some aspects of my dvx even more. While everyone says dSLRs are stunning for low light photography, even at 1600ISO I need a flash to take good images indoors and there's noticeable grain. The dvx actually has incredible low light abilities, though it probably has a lot to do with the fast lens. At 55mm (telephoto), I can only shoot at f5.6 and slower! I can't wait until my Nikon adapter arrives and I can slap on my 50mm f1.8 manual lens.
As for dynamic range, it's not that much better than the dvx. Windows still get blown out as do bright overcast skies (as they do with 35mm sometimes). The transition is softer, though, and RAW mode is unbelievably nice.
Anyhow, some day (soon?) video cameras will shoot this well, I hope. It's really incredibly how refined a product Canon has put out.
