Just got my Camera...I have a question

Hi all,

My camera just came in and upon opening up the box and take it out, I notice there is a slight click noise like there is a loose part at the lens section.  Is this normal? So I flip my camera up and down to check and there is definately a noise there.  Please tell me this is normal. :(

Uh, oh! The dreaded DVX click. It's worse than you possibly imagined . . . ! :o :o

It can only be "cured" by going into the woods and getting well-lit footage of wild snipes.

No, that's the film gate and sprocket mechanism flopping around... you might need to test it in a shutterless situation.

1> go into a dark place (pitch black)... such as a dark sealed off closet

2> run the camera in pitch black for at least 30 minutes... this will allow the ccd to adjust to the low light and the shutter to "settle" (since it's new)

3> make sure you don't let any light in or you'll have to start over (no flashlights!)

4> if after 30 minutes it still does it, repost here and we'll try something else.

You're right about the film gate mechanism. As soon as power up the camera, the noise went away but came back as soon as I power off.

Any how, I did my 1/2 hour in the dark closet but it's still flopping around. Try something else? :-/

Guys,

Don't laugh. I was reading up at this site for nearly four months before I got mine. I knew about this ahead of time, so it was no big deal the first time I heard it. But I would have freaked out if I hadn't known.

(See how nice of a post I just made for that poor, unsuspecting new DVX owner. You can tell I steered clear of the fraternities when I was in college.)

Hehe..I've been reading about a million posts it seems the past month and thought I knew everything I needed to know about the camera, then boom when I got it in my hands, I get freaked out about every little thing that doesnt seems right.

LOL. That click scared me too, but when the camera worked okay, I didn't think twice about it. Kai, that was hysterical. LOL.
